About Martina Olbertova

Martina Olbertova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, is a student of Master’s program in Media Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University in Prague.

This summer she was getting her Study & Intern experience abroad in Washington, DC, where she studied Media Ethics and Economics at the Institute on Political Journalism held on the campus of Georgetown University.

Interning as a news photographer at the local public radio station WAMU, where she got a unique chance of accompanying its reporters during their field work and compiling a photo coverage of their news stories for the radio’s website, she quickly realized that written journalism is not something she wishes to be doing for living. Instead, what brings her pleasure and currently serves as the main source of her happiness is capturing moments of everyday life and things happening around her in general in a new, fresh and original way.

For this reason, Martina has changed the concentration of her ongoing yearlong study abroad experience for the members of EU countries often known simply as Erasmus. She is no longer interested in earning a Master’s degree in Media & Communication from Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries of University of Glamorgan in Wales as she originally planned on doing, but instead will try to use the opportunity to study in the UK for a whole one year to broaden her knowledge in the field of her passion: Photography.

Martina hopes that by displaying her pictures on her blog, people will have a chance to see things her eyes and perhaps might also be more understandable of how she perceives the world around her – deeply, thoughtfully with a strong attention to detail.
