…capturing life with just a hint of imagination and a big dose of insight…

Category: Thought of a Day

Fear is a strange thing…

Fear is a strange and underestimated thing. It plays a lead role in our lives, a bigger one than we’d like to admit.

“We don’t fear we fail, we fear we possess the ability to succeed beyond our wildest imaginations. This is what truly holds us back. The fear of what happens after we’ve turned the unthinkable into real.”

Think about it… Once you’ve managed to look at it from the other – more constructive way – you realize the only thing, which holds you back, isn’t fear itself, but you.

Give yourself the room and strength to overcome this barrier as the only place, where it truly exists, is in your head.

The Truth about America

So what the truth about America anyway?

Jean Baudrillard, a French postmodern theorist and one of the most influential thinkers of the past two decades, would say:

“It is a world completely rotten with wealth, power, senility, indifference, puritanism and mental hygiene, poverty and waste, technological futility and aimless violence, and yet cannot help but feel it has about it something of the dawning of the universe. Perhaps because the entire world continues to dream of New York, even as New York dominates and exploits it.”

America is utopia made real. America is the giant simulacrum that has started to live its own life leading an existence independent of others, of the rest of the world. America is a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is why it is so powerful, because it managed to persuade itself and others it just is. America is an advertisement – an advertisement for a happy life and a boundless liberty. America is a myth – that’s why its existence is in and of itself illogical and fails to be explained by any rational endeavors or a simple common sense. Its basis is mythological, that’s why it still manages to survive even though all the rational evidence speaks against it as its current state would in case of any other country be unsustainable. America is not real, it is hyperreal. It doesn’t exist in the real world, it only exists as the simulation of the real. Consequentially, its own existence has gotten more real than the reality itself.

The Remains of Modernity

Hello all!

I have found this link (http://marchandmeffre.com/detroit/index.html) while surfing Internet lately and said to myself I just had to share this. These pictures are so stunning it would be an ultimate shame to not share them!

I myself love to reveal the beauty within things that others perceive primarily as ugly or uninteresting, I usually tend to look deeper under the scrappy surface in order to discover something more profound and meaningful and therefore beautiful. But these pictures are truly gorgeous! Sad and abandoned, but profound, ugly, but beautiful, honest in its roughness, these pictures are the silent witnesses of the time that passed us by and therefore are timeless in the message they help to convey.

They capture the downfall of modernity in the postmodern age. It feels like time has stopped in these images and therefore they are truly timeless. They’re telling us an intimate story of the people who worked, learned, lived and entertained themselves in these areas, and thanks to them these people will never be forgotten. They’re the true remains of modernity…

I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did!

Best,

Martina
